 » 2011-2012 CAMPAIGN WINNERS!

United Way of Franklin County held its campaign prize drawing live on Cable 12 recently. Everyone contributing $3 per week or $156 or more to the 2011-2012 campaign was entered in the drawing for a variety of prizes donated by area businesses. Winners were as follows:

Ralph Hite won the rug donated by Ronile, Inc. from Gulistan’s Metropolitan Collection ($999 value).

Mr. and Mrs. Don Phillips won the Myrtle Beach Get-away donated by Betty Kingery of Mountain to Lake Realty.

Smokey Jones won “Extreme Sport,” a painting by artist Dr. Barbara Hunley of Rocky Mount ($500 value).

Randy Taylor won a pair of Oakley sunglasses donated by Dr. Al Angle II & Angle Eye Center ($180 value).

Patricia Prater won a “Spring Fling” pontoon rental from Roy Enslow of Bridgewater Marina ($165 value).

Robert Luce won a bag given by Sheila Copenhaver of J&J Fashions ($100 value).

Cassandra Corn
(Westlake passes) and Jeffery Wagner (Waterfront passes) won greens fee passes given by The Willard Companies.

Kimberly Newman won the ladies watch from Haywood's Jewelers of Rocky Mount ($155 value).

Rena Fielding donated her Mariner’s Landing golf prize back and received a SunTrust duffle bag and blanket.

Cathy Bleier won Mary Kay products donated by Katina Clements ($80 value).

Angela Snyder won a pair of knitting lessons from The Crooked Stitch Quilts and Knits in Rocky Mount ($60 value).

Angela Oliver, John Clark, Ruth Flora and Marsha Arrington each won a decorative bath or powder room set.

Robert Woods won a year’s subscription to the Franklin News-Post

Mike Holland won a year’s subscription to the Smith Mountain Eagle and a large pizza from Pizza Hut in Rocky Mount.

Vann Wray won a $50 savings bond from Sun Trust Bank.

Sarah Arnold won a $50 savings bond from Carter’s Bank and Trust.

Amanda Brown won a $50 gift card from Haywood’s at Westlake.

Herman McCreary won a floral arrangement from Flowers by Jones.

Mr. and Mrs. George Urias won a candle gift set from Basket Creations and More ($30 value).

Mike Meredith won a $25 gift certificate from Cox’s Fashions.

Sid Mason
won a large planter from Angle Hardware Co. ($25 value).

Terrie Spencer
won a game donated by Dee’s Hallmark and a bag of paper crafting supplies from UWFC.

Snack Attack prizes went to:
Janice Moore received a large Pyramid pepperoni pizza from Pyramid Pizza and Bakery and a $10 gift card from Daily Grind.
Dona Minnick received a $25 gift certificate from Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill.
Lori Jones received a $25 gift certificate from Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill.

Regardless of the amount, donations are still needed for the campaign. Area residents are encouraged to mail tax-deductible contributions to United Way, P.O. Box 446, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Like us on Facebook to see a video that shows how the funds are used.

The Doe Run Christian Church Vacation Bible School recently went "inside out and upside down" to make an $800 difference for United Way.

The Rotary Club selected United Way to receive the proceeds from their annual July 4th Festival this year.

Brandon Spells, 19, of Maryland volunteered to work with United Way in designing this year's brochure.

 

 » Thanks to Marsha Tyree for showing us how to LIVE UNITED

Marsha Tyree of Rocky Mount, right, has been collecting aluminum cans since the first of the year and recently turned them in for cash. When she received $500, she went straight to the Franklin County United Way office and made a contribution. She said she received help in collecting the cans from family and friends along with co-workers and residents of Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.

 » Thanks to J&J Fashions for supporting United Way!

J&J Fashions, owned by Sheila Copenhaver and located at 275 Franklin St., Rocky Mount, is selling a discount card for $10. United Way will receive each card purchase price, and the buyer will receive a 20% discount on one non-sale item each month when she presents the card. J&J specializes in ladies' fashions and accessories. The cards went on sale March 1 and don't expire until Feb. 28, 2012. That's 12 discounts! To obtain a card, visit or call the shop at 540-483-9530. Cards also may be purchased at the United Way office at 335A South Main St., Rocky Mount. Remember, only one to a customer.
